This is a page that tries to set out practical exercises that I found very helpful in coping with my position. Frightening facts about your beliefs
- It is likely that many of your beliefs did not result from careful, responsible thinking or testing
- You did not actively choose all your beliefs, especially those going back to childhood
- Some may be holding you back or sabotaging you
- Some of them may be out of touch with reality
- The more crazy they are, the more passionately you will defend them
- You may be unaware of many of them

- They define who you are - centrally important
- Difficult to change if you don't want to
- Not easily changed by reasoning
- Held with passion - deep feelings
- You protect them like a baby
- Often formed without being examined for validity

- Political parties can be a potent source

- Most vulnerable in very young children
- Repetition (e.g. reciting the Creed in church)
- Experience (valid or invalid)

- Modelling - e.g. children copying parents
- Persuasion, suggestion, hypnosis
- Group and peer pressure

- Politics
